treeline on Ammo trail. FYI - the red thing is a water bottle insulator. water bottle is carried upside down so that when ice starts to form it does not form in threads and freeze bottle shut. i start with boiling hot water in the morning, so it usually only freezes on very long hikes of 10 hours +. the other bottle clipped on shoulder strap is food. above treeline you do not want to take of your pack if possible, so keep the items you need in your pockets, or "pack pockets" on shoulder straps in front, convenient to reach. for winter hiking there's all kinds of little details like that which help - so take an AMC winter hiking class!
